EC 375 - 3 Senior Seminar - International
(Prerequisites: EC 235, EC 236 and EC 237).
COURSE DESCRIPTION
As a capstone experience for senior Economics majors, this intensive research course builds on the theoretical frameworks developed in other economics courses to analyze current international policy-oriented issues. Students will conduct in-depth research on a topic of their choosing, leading to a substantial, independently researched paper (approximately 8,000-10,000 words or 25 pages of length) that follows the accepted format in the economics discipline. The research process and the paper itself will be grounded in economic theory and analysis reflecting extensive reading of the scholarly literature. The paper should both analyze the existing body of knowledge on the topic and contribute something new to the literature. Papers may also include empirical content and the application of quantitative methods where appropriate.
This is a writing-intensive course. Students are expected to write weekly, participating in small groups where their writing is shared, discussed, and peer reviewed, and where that work is then revised in light of the peer-reviewing process. In addition, students will be expected to present their papers to the full seminar at the end of the term for student feedback and subsequent reflection and revision. Formal peer-reviewed and revised drafts will be due to the instructor at the due dates shown below.
