Committee on Appointments, Promotions, and Tenure
Annual Report for 1999-2000

CAPT met twenty-nine times during the 1999-2000 Academic Year.

TENURE: CAPT evaluated the credentials of six candidates for tenure. The committee recommended to the President that four of these candidates be granted tenure and promotion to Associate Professor.

PROMOTIONS: CAPT evaluated the credentials of five candidates for promotion from Associate Professor to Full Professor. The committee recommended promotion for two of these candidates.

In September, the Chair of CAPT held a meeting with new members of the faculty to discuss crieteria and procedures for reappointment and tenure.

In May, CAPT held a meeting with tenure-track faculty members in their third or fourth year to discuss the tenure process.

CAPT consulted with the Committee on Faculty Governance and the President regarding procedures for selecting faculty representatives to the search committees for the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VP/AA) and Vice President for Institutional Advancement (VP/IA).

CAPT met with four candidates for the VP/AA . After meeting these four candidates, CAPT made recommendations in writing to the VP/AA Search Committee.

CAPT met with two candidates for the VP/IA. CAPT met and consulted with the Ad Hoc Committee on Faculty Evaluation Procedures regarding its efforts to redesign the procedures by which students evaluate faculty teaching.

CAPT met with the Dean of the Faculty and the President regarding the credentials of the six candidates for tenure.

CAPT met with the Dean of the Faculty and the President regarding the credentials of the five candidates for promotion to Full Professor.

CAPT consulted to the Dean of the Faculty on several other of personnel issues. CAPT interviewed one prospective department chair.

Representatives of CAPT attended meetings of the Committee of Committees. CAPT met with the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees to discuss tenure and promotion procedures. The Chair of CAPT met with the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees to discuss the Committee's promotion recommendations.
