CAPT CAPT met some 50 times (on average twice a week) throughout academic year 2001-2002. As is customary, CAPT held information sessions for new faculty, and
for colleagues who were successfully reappointed to a second three-year
contract. The Chair and available members met on two occasions with Academic Staff
to In the fall, CAPT met with Dean John Berman to discuss the composition
of the Office of The VPAA/DOF, and in the spring with Dean Chuck Joseph
regarding the appointment of the next Associate Dean of the Faculty. In matters of internal governance, the Chair and available members met as required with the Committee of Committees. Finally, CAPT met twice with the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees, the Chair alone in February, and the full CAPT in May.
CAPT evaluated the credentials of six candidates for tenure, and six
for promotion to In accordance with stipulations in the Faculty Handbook, the VPAA/DOF CAPT consulted with CFG about its legislation regarding Promotion for Artists and Writers in Residence. That legislation was ratified by the Faculty. CAPT also consulted with CFG regarding handbook changes intended to make recruitment of CAPT replacement members less burdensome. The changes were ratified by the Faculty.
CAPT consulted AAUP regarding the appropriateness of its intended calendar changes for tenure candidates in 2002-03 and 2003-04. In the fall, Associate Dean Chuck Joseph consulted with CAPT about the
Pilot Student Deans Berman and Joseph and President Studley consulted with CAPT about the strategic plan. Dean Joseph and Jack Ling, Director of Diversity and of Affirmative Action, consulted with CAPT about diversity issues and concerns at the College. APPOINTMENTS: CAPT reviewed the credentials of candidates for honorary degrees for this academic year, and for future commencements. There were no endowed Chairs open this year, or any reviews of senior administrators scheduled. OPERATING CODE AND CALENDAR CHANGES: Both the operating code and the calendar were revised to take into consideration the exceptionally large tenure cohorts for the next two years. The changes were announced on the faculty floor, and subsequently shared with the community by e-mail during the spring term. These changes will take effect on June 1, 2002, and continue through May, 2004. FACULTY HANDBOOK CHANGES: CAPT completed the legislation aimed at standardizing procedures for promotion at Skidmore College, which it had begun drafting during academic year 2000-2001. That legislation was brought to the faculty floor in March and voted upon at the April 26th meeting, where it passed in its entirety unanimously.
