CHRISTOPHER A. WHANN received his Ph.D. in Political Science and African Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1995 after completing a bachelor's degree in international relations and a master's degree in political science at the University of Delaware.   Dr. Whann came to Skidmore in 1992 as an advisor and lecturer in Skidmore's adult degree program, the University Without Walls, after serving as a visiting assistant professor at Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL.   Dr. Whann has lectured widely in the United States and South Africa on international relations, comparative politics and political economy.
          Dr. Whann held Title VI Foreign Language and Area Studies fellowships (for Zulu and Shona) while a graduate student at Wisconsin. He also held a Fulbright grant in southern Africa while completing his dissertation, entitled  "The Revenue Imperative and State Management in Lesotho."  He has presented papers at annual meetings of the African Studies Association and the Northeast International Studies Association and published in the University of London Bulletin of the School of Oriental and African Studies. He is currently preparing a book chapter on the Lesotho Highlands Water Project and its effects on Lesotho-South Africa relations.  In addition to his continuing interest in southern African studies, Dr. Whann also plans future research on the effects of  labor migration on the Jamaican economy.
