Doretta Miller, Professor of Art, received her AB degree from Ripon College, and Doctorate of Art Education and Masters of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing from Northern Illinois University. She teaches courses in foundations, drawing and painting, and art theory at Skidmore College. Her gouache paintings and colored-pencil drawings have received numerous awards, and are included in the permanent collections of The Hyde Collection and the Albany Institute of History and Art. Her current work is featured at First Street Gallery in New York City. In 1996 Miller was visiting professor of Western-Style Oil Painting at Qufu Teachers’ University in China. In 2003 she served as Faculty Curator at the Tang Teaching Museum and co-authored the catalogue for the exhibition “Brushing the Present: Contemporary Academy Painting from China", and in 2008, was guest curator at First Street Gallery and editor of the catalogue for the exhibition “Beijing Now: Oil Paintings by Twelve Chinese Artists”. Miller held The Robert Davidson Chair in Art from 2004-2009.
