Plant Biotechnology is a course where students learn about humankind's past, present and future manipulations of plants and fungi. The course looks at the origins, advancements and future of agriculture and horticulture, the use of plants as medicines and poisons, the ways genetic engineering have altered and will alter plants and fungi and the history/technology behind such specialty areas as: fibers, oils, perfumery, tannining and mariculture. In lab, students get hands-on lab and field experience in working with plants. Specifically, students perform experiments in hydroponics, food biochemical extraction and characterization, testing plants and fungi as antibiotic sources and tissue culture.
