Welcome to Unit Six. This unit covers the formation of complex nouns (and a few adjectives) from Greek and Latin roots and suffixes.

The following topics are addressed:

• how Greek and Latin adjectives become nouns in English,
• how Greek and Latin nouns become nouns in English,
• the addition of noun suffixes to Greek and Latin roots,
• a special class of Greek suffixes,
• the usage of these suffixes, and
• the rules under which the new adjectives enter English.

After reading Unit 6, students should be able to identify and to generate English nouns from their Greek and Latin components.
