Welcome to Unit Nine.

This unit covers the formation of complex nouns from Greek and Latin verbal roots and suffixes.

The following topics are addressed:

• the derivation of roots from non-standard Greek and Latin verbs,
• the addition of noun suffixes to Greek and Latin verbal roots,
• the usage of these suffixes, and
• the rules under which the new nouns enter English.

After reading Unit 9, students should be able to identify and to generate English nouns from their Greek and Latin verbal components.
