English Department
The English Minor


Students wishing to declare a minor in English should consult with the chair for specific program planning. The minor normally consists of six courses in one of these areas of concentration:

Literature: Six courses, including two chosen from the category Advanced Courses in British and American Literature (other than EN 371 and EN 372), and three from the categories Genre Courses, General Courses, and Literature in Translation.

Creative Writing: Six Courses, including EN 281 or EN 282; EN 211 or EN 213; at least two from the category Advanced Courses in British and American Literature (other than EN 371 and EN 372), and on of the following combinations: (a) EN 379 and EN 380; (b) two semesters of either EN 379 or EN 380; (c) EN 380 and either EN 381 or an Independent Study in Writing; (d) EN 379 and either EN 381 or Independent Study in Writing.

Expository Writing: Six courses, including EN 205 or, EN 206; EN 207; EN 303 or an advanced writing project developed within the guidelines on EN 373, EN 374, or EN 399; and two courses from the categories: Genre Courses, General Courses, Literature in Translation, and Advanced Courses in British and American Literature other than EN 371 and EN 372),
