The French Program

The French section at Skidmore offers a number of opportunities for students inside and outside of the classroom. The curriculum in French includes a broad selection of courses in language, culture, and literature.   To practice your French outside of class, you may want to join the SGA sponsored French Club, which hosts bimonthly rendez-vous to speak in French and to experience French culture.

You may also use your French to connect to other academic disciplines through the Language Across the Curriculum (LAC) courses.    The LAC courses allow students to read and discuss discipline specific materials in French.

Excellence in the study of French can lead to a nomination to the Nu Iota chapter of Pi Delta Phi, the national French honor society.

For students interested in studying abroad in Paris, we encourage you to view the Office of International Programs website concerning study abroad opportunities.

Housed within the French section, the Revue CELAAN Review publishes scholarly articles on Maghrebian authors and artists, as well as French authors from the Maghreb.
