The Sasuga Japanese Bookstore carries a number of books on living and working in Japan. For additional information on the Web about living and working in Japan, check out the The Japan Web Guide. ISTC maintains a nice database on working and studying in Japan: ISTC Work and Study Abroad Page EAS Alumni in the NYC area recommend browsing the classifieds in the OCS News, a bi-weekly Japanese newspaper. Available at Kinokuniya Bookstore (Rockefeller Center), Asahiya (corner of Vanderbilt and 43rd St.) or at OCS on 44th, just off 5th Ave.

Programs for Teaching English in Japan

JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching Program) Sponsored by the Japanese Ministry of Education. Participants work as English teachers in the Japanese school system in a location of the Ministry's choosing. Tenure is one year, with a possible renewal. Program provides round-trip airfare and a stipend, and arranges housing. Deadline is early December. Requirements: BA from accredited university, under 35 yrs. of age. Post-Graduate Language Programs

Inter-University Center for Japanese Language Studies For college graduates who need additional Japanese language training for their careers/graduate studies. Financial aid is available. One of the best if not THE best language programs available. Sponsored by Stanford University; highly competitive. Student Conferences

Japan America Student Conference An educational and cultural exchange program for university students from the U.S. and Japan. Each year, 40 American students and 40 Japanese students (freshmen to PhD candidates) spend an intense month of living, studying and travelling together at various locales in the United States or Japan. Deadline is usually in February. Participation fee: $1900 (1995). Financial aid available. Japanese Language Proficiency Test

Adminstered by the Japan Foundation and the Japanese Government. There are four levels, costing between $30-$50. Application deadline in mid-October. Job Fairs

Boston Career Forum The Boston International Career Forum offers college seniors and recent graduates with Japanese/English and Korean/English speaking ability the opportunity to interview for employment at Japanese, American and Korean companies.
