Art History

AH101
Survey of Western Art
Prof. Amelia Rauser
Prof. Michael Clapper

A chronological survey of Western art from the Renaissance to contemporary art. Honors students attend the regular lectures twice a week and meet in an honors discussion section once a week. In addition to addressing the regular course topics, the honors group focuses on a semester-long thematic study of a topic developed by the instructor. Prerequisite: AH101

AH102H
Survey of Western Art
Prof. Penny Jolly

The second semester of a two-semester sequence providing students with an introduction to the history of art in the West. AH 102 covers material from the Renaissance to the present. Lectures are delivered by different faculty members to the entire enrollment of the course for two hours a week, and a third hour is spent in a small, thematic discussion group. The Honors section of AH 102 will enhance this experience in two ways: (1) it will challenge the students to raise the level of discussion through the addition of one extra reading per week; (2) it will involve the honors students in longer and more challenging paper assignments, and in at least one group project
