An Overview of the Campus Network
Skidmore College provides outstanding computer facilities. Clusters of networked PCs and Macs are located in various classroom buildings, dorms, and other public locations. You'll even find computers in some of our hallways, where students can quickly check their email between classes or make some last minute changes to a term paper. All these computers have access to the Internet as well as to the campus intranet, made up of several dozen servers that support various academic programs and the campus library. Any computer can access any other computer (assuming rights have been granted) on campus, so students have access to files on their dorm PCs from any other location.
All the dorms are wired with Ethernet connections to the net, and IT (Information Technology) provides student advisors, a help desk, and other assistance to all members of the community who need help with their personal or college-provided PCs.
