Orchestrating Peace - Can Music Change the World?

A 2005 documentary about Daniel Barenboim’s West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, followed by a light meal and a discussion of this cross-cultural experiment. The panel will feature young musicians with experience in the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra or teaching on the West Bank, along with experts on the Middle East and on conflict resolution strategies.

Music supervisor Julianne Kelley-Jordan '91 talks about her work on such films as
The Italian Job and The Bourne Identity.
She will also bring clips of films on which she has worked and talk
about how music can make the film.

Working with Wynton: Challenges of Creating "Congo Square"

Yacub and Amina Addy present a 90-minute lecture-demonstration regarding
Addy's acclaimed collaboration with Wynton Marsalis. The program will include video footage of the New Orleans premiere, the Montreal Jazz Festival performance, slides by Jazz at Lincoln Center's
award-winning photographer Frank Stewart, personal stories, and a demonstration of
rhythms incorporated in the production.

Yacub Addy's Odadaa!

A dynamic ensemble of artists from the Ga tribe of Ghana, led by the pioneering drum master/composer/choreographer Yacub Addy. Odadaa! combines hot African polyrhythmic drumming with bamboo flutes, guitar, balafon (wooden xylophone), bass, rich vocals, high energy dance, and lush costumes. The group's repertoire includes classic traditional pieces and vibrant
new works created by Addy and group members.

Tim Riley, National Public Radio commentator and author of Tell Me Why: A Beatles Commentary;
