Writing about Music: Writing in Ethnomusicology

Like anthropology and other social sciences, ethnomusicologists cite sources at the point in the text where we use information by including a parenthetical notation.  We then give the full bibliographic information at the conclusion of the article or book.  The purpose of this annotation is to make clear to the reader when they read text whose idea the author references without having to find footnotes or endnotes.  The Skidmore Guide to Writing articulates this style under its guidelines for MLA citation and bibliography.
Also see these guidelines for writing short essays and/or 500-word essays.
