| Reading
and Listening Materials: The principal readings for this class
are these web pages which include recordings, photos, and notes.
Most listening examples we study will be available on this website.
Other materials (recordings and publications) are available through
the library. |

| Quizzes. There will be six tests constituting 50% of your grade.
These will test your memory and knowledge of terms and ideas and
your ability to recognize musical examples. Your final grade for
the quizzes will be an average of your quiz grades. |

| Research Essay |

| Essay Proposal Abstract. A short (500-word) description of (a) your thesis and (b) an appraisal of your sources with an attached bibliography. The essay's grade derives from the quality of the thesis and the bibliography and of the writing. (See the essay grading guidelines for this course.) Find at least three published sources to support your research. Establish an argument or position to support about the music of the Indian subcontinent. Due as an Word attachment on 23 February. |
