The Music of the Beatles

Requirements and Assignments
 
1. Class Presentations. The seminar will form teams to examine the music and recordings, and to present their findings each class according to the schedule. Teams must ensure that all members have a chance to participate in the presentation. [30%]
2. Short Essays. Every other week, students will choose a particular aspect of a song-recording to describe in a short 500-word essay. (See schedule.) Describe what you find interesting about this example and why. Send these to me as a Word document attached to an email. [30%]
3. Long Essay. Prepare a paper and present it at the end of the semester. Take some aspect of the Beatles repertoire and describe it to your classmates. Subjects could include recording technology, harmonic preferences, musical instrument choices, etc. Class presentation followed by a paper [3,000 words] sent as an attachment. [10% + 20% = 30%]
4. Attitude and Grading: participation in class discussions and enthusiasm for research and presentations. [10%]
