Anne Z. Turner

Soprano Anne Turner has sung professionally since 1969. Her performance experience encompasses opera, operetta, recital, chamber music, and oratorio, with a special emphasis in recent years on music of living composers, including premieres of pieces written for her. Among her numerous recitals are programs at Weill (formerly Carnegie) Recital Hall in New York and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. She has appeared as soloist with the Boston, Albany, and Springfield (MA) Symphonies, the New York City Ballet Orchestra at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, the Lake George Opera, and numerous choral societies throughout the Northeast. In 1999 and 2001, she was an invited presenter/performer of Pulitzer Prize winning composer George Crumb's Apparition for the College Music Society and the National Music Teachers Association's national conventions.

Several of Professor Turner's voice students from Skidmore College have gone on to outstanding music schools for graduate work, and several have worked and/or are currently working professionally as opera singers with such companies as Atlanta Opera, Boston Early Music Festival, Kansas City Lyric Opera, Shreveport Opera, Ohio Light Opera, and Des Moines Metro Opera.

Ms. Turner coordinates the vocal component of the music program at Skidmore, where she teaches private voice and directs the Opera Workshop.

She received her Bachelor's Degree in Music from the University of Rochester/Eastman School of Music with a minor in psychology, and her Masters Degree in Opera Performance from California State University at Northridge. She has been teaching voice since 1976, and continues study with Master Teacher Cornelius Reid in New York City.
