Guest Artist DAVE DEMKE to Direct

KING RICHARD II at Skidmore


Dave Demke is associate director of training for Shakespeare & Company, in Lenox, MA. A designated Linklater voice teacher, he has taught voice, acting, and movement for Shakespeare & Company as well as at Boston University, Emerson College, and Brandeis University. In addition he has taught at various companies and institutions including Tecumseh, Dallas Shakespeare Festival, and Corning Community College. He received his BFA in Theatre Arts from Minnesota State University and became a principle dancer, soloist, and teacher for the Red River Dance & Performing Company. He has also acted and/or directed with Shakespeare & Company, Purdue University, the 8th St. Theatre Project in New York City, New Rose Theatre and Tygres Heart Shakespeare Theatre in Portland, OR, NW Theatre for the Deaf, and Artists Repertory Theatre. Acting credits include Richard in Richard III, Ray in The Choice, Mr. Zero in The Adding Machine, Edward in Spike Heels, Prince John in Henry IV Part 2, and Johnny Pope in A Hatful of Rain. Directing credits include Detective Story, The Visit, It Had to be You, Brilliant Traces, Bouncers, Richard II, Two Gentlemen of Verona, The Turn of the Screw and A Place with the Pigs. While in Portland, Mr. Demke also taught acting for Portland Actors Conservatory as well as privately. From 1992 to 2000 he was the Artistic Director of Stark Raving Theatre in Portland, OR, where he garnered awards for acting, directing, and producing. Beginning in 1998 Mr. Demke began teaching for Shakespeare & Company in 2000 Mr. Demke accepted the position of Associate Director of Training for the company. In his position Mr. Demke organizes, runs, and teaches in the various acting workshops sponsored by Shakespeare & Company. In addition he acts for the company, having appeared in productions of Enchanted April, Merry Wives of Windsor, King John, The Taming of the Shrew, Comedy of Errors, The Fly Bottle, Summer, The Scarlet Letter, The Secret of Sherlock Holmes, and The Millionairess.
