Theater Departmental Meeting
Wednesday, September 9, 2015, 7:00-8:00 pm

(First Year Students who were not in Theatre Pre-Orientation and Transfer Students
will also meet with Lary Opitz @ 6:30 pm in the Blackbox Theater)

Open to everyone interested in working in the theater and learning about the Department. If this includes you, you are strongly advised to attend this meeting.  You will meet the theater faculty, staff and other students involved in theater.  Departmental requirements, courses being offered, the Skidmore Theater Company, and the workshop production program will be explained.  The directors of this semester's productions will discuss their productions and casting requirements. This is where you sign-up for auditions, find out about working in the Department, and place your name on a wait-list for closed theater courses.

This is an important opportunity for anyone who has never auditioned here before to learn about how our process works. Suggestions and guidelines about appropriate procedures will be discussed

General auditions for all of Skidmore Theater’s

Fall Productions 

Skidmore Theater auditions are open to all students, not just Theater majors or minors. As always, we encourage actors of all types and backgrounds to audition. Our casting is typically non-traditional in that we often cast against assumptions about gender and race and we strive to be both diverse and inclusive in our casting. Our rehearsals are usually held between the hours of 7:00pm and 11:00pm.

Sign-ups for auditions will begin on Wednesday, September 9th, immediately following our 7:00pm Semester Opening Theater Meeting in the JKB Theater.

ALL actors should prepare the following - limited to 4 minutes:
a. A contemporary monologue in their age range. This should be 1-2 minutes.
b. 8-16 bars of a song (no more than 30 seconds) to be performed without accompaniment.

Actors who wish to be considered for MACBETH should ALSO prepare 14 lines of Shakespearean verse (not prose) - either a short monologue or a sonnet.

ALL actors should prepare the following which should be limited to a total of four minutes at the most:

This is the Theater Company’s first meeting, led by our new Technical Director and Production Manager, Jared Klein.
The opportunity to sign-up for technical crews (lights, set, sound, and costumes) and management staff (Box Office, Visuals, Photography, Ad Sales, Publicity, Newsletter, etc.) will be explained.

CALL BACKS: Sat. & Sun., September 12 & 13, 2015
A list of actors who are called back for our Department Seminar productions will be posted in the JKB Theater lobby (on the grey doors near the elevator) shortly after the completion of auditions on Friday, September 11 (about midnight). If your name is on any of the lists, you must initial it. Instructions about the time and place for the call-backs will also be posted.

Actors who are not called back for these productions and actors who are not cast in these productions are eligible for the Workshop call-backs which will begin on Monday, September 14. Cast lists for the seminar productions and information on workshop call-backs will be posted in the JKB Theater lobby on Sunday evening at 6:00pm (on the grey doors near the elevator).
