Workshops
The Workshop Program affords an opportunity for aspiring directors to work on productions with actors in a controlled studio environment. Department workshops focus upon the work of the actor and director, not on productions that are dependent upon extensive scenery, lighting, costumes or sound. An understanding and acceptance of this principle should be clear in each proposal. Please notify Alma Becker of your intent to apply as soon as you have made your decision. Proposals must be word-processed. Fill-in your responses after each prompt and hand-print your name in the box at the top of each page. Proposals
should be clear, concise and carefully written.
Proofread carefully and use a spell checker. Refer to the Workshop Guidelines. Completed written proposals must be submitted to Alma Becker by the announced deadline. Provide five (5) copies of the completed proposal. The proposal should also include at least three (3) copies of the performance text. A clear and detailed outline must be submitted for pieces that do not have a text. Oral presentations will be later in the semester. This is an opportunity to defend the proposal, elaborate upon it, and answer questions posed by faculty members and other students. Decisions on workshop selections will be made by the faculty and announced as soon as possible. The criteria include: previous training, experience and preparation; the quality of the written and oral presentations; the projects themselves (scale, casting requirements, quality of vision, etc.); and adherence to the Workshop Guidelines. Please understand that not all proposals will necessarily be approved as workshops.
