Clubs and Organizations
Amnesty
International: An on-campus opportunity to further Amnestys
vision of universal human rights for all.
Asian Cultural Awareness: Provides a diverse group of students, including
adopted and biracial Asians and non-Asians, with a cultural and intellectual
atmosphere for learning about and fortifying awareness of Asian cultures,
histories, and philosophies. Events include Asian-Pacific Islander
Month and Chinese New Year.
Christian Fellowship: Provides worship, mission, and fellowship
opportunities for students.
French Connection: An opportunity for students to speak French,
eat French food, and enjoy each others company.
Irish Dance Club: The Irish Dancers teach fellow students of
all abilities the Irish cultural form of step dancing, both social
and competition-style. They also perform their own innovative, modern
work at off-campus venues.
Jewish Student Union: Resource for practicing Judaism, meeting
other Jewish students, and getting involved in events and activities.
Model European
Union: For students interested in diplomatic negotiations, role-playing,
and European politics. Participates in an intercollegiate European
Union simulation which meets alternately in Brussels, Belgium, and
locations in New York State.
Model United Nations: For students interested in participating
in the National Model United Nations, which takes place at the end
of the academic year in New York City.
Newman Club: Skidmores Catholic community meets weekly
for either a prayer or communion service or Mass (once a month). Students
gather afterward for discussion, and to plan group activities.
Raíces (roots in Spanish): Acts as a resource
for students of Hispanic and Latino backgrounds and anyone interested
in learning about Latino culture. Events include Hispanic Heritage
Month and Dominican Independence Day. Activities include tutoring
inner-city kids in nearby Schenectady, N.Y.
Skidmore Pride Alliance: Support, awareness-raising, and outreach
for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (GLBTQ) students
and their straight supporters.
Students Organized Against Racism: Committed to eradicating
racial bias in academe through the development of supportive, nondiscriminatory,
and productive educational environments.
Ujima (Swahili for collective work and responsibility):
Seeks to unite Skidmore students of African descent and act as an
educational resource for the community on African, African-American,
and African-Caribbean cultures. Events include Black Solidarity Day,
speakers, and an annual fashion show.
