Where
are the Liberal Arts Jobs, I haven't seen many advertised?
This
sentiment has been expressed in response to our recent survey about
Career Services. Certainly almost any job in business, government,
education, communications or the arts can be considered a liberal
arts job depending on the interests, skills and experiences of the
candidate. But most often students mean - where are the jobs outside
of business that would be suitable for liberal arts graduates.
Here's some suggestions about where you can find those jobs:
Look in our
recruiting listings, log in and select"Skidmore's
Fall/Spring Recruiting." There are currently 25 employers requesting
resumes from Skidmore students in the April 6 to May 6 time frame.
Most of these employers are open to liberal arts graduates for
positions in publishing, law, education, youth services, consulting,
and sports/entertainment.

Arts Jobs Newsletters
Search
through our "Jobs
by Field" links to identify job sources in areas of
interest. For example, by looking at the Arts/Humanities category
you'll find the jobs newsletter "Artsearch" which contains
listings for theater, dance, music and other areas of the arts.
The Federal Government is a major
employer of liberal arts graduates and hiring is ongoing at a
high level despite the recession. Visit
USA Jobs to search
for entry level government jobs.
Visit our
entry level jobs links and you will find many non business
jobs. Enter a site like Hotjobs and search by the college or entry
level category.
Network with graduates from your
department by accessing our online
Career Network listings (email your name and class year to
adoyle@skidmore.edu to get
a password). You can search the database by major and then conduct
informational interviews with professionals in interesting fields to
uncover options.
Visit our "What
Can I Do With a Major In ..." page - for more resources
related to your discipline.
