NYS Unified Court System, Fourth Judicial District
Saratoga Springs, NY

Description: Assignments designed to give students a broad range of exposure to the functions & activities of the courts & offices, in keeping with their areas of interest & study: computer, research, case/record management, personnel, budgeting, etc.

Qualifications: Interest in field. Specific tasks depend upon the type/needs of court or agency.


Kenneth A. Vercammen, Esq.
Metuchen, NJ

Description: EDITOR - Volunteer intern wanted to serve as assistant editor of the NJ Municipal Court Law Review. Some duties include reviewing and revising legal and consumer law articles for grammar and punctuation, preparing correspondence to law journals and New Jersey Media with revised articles, provide copies of published articles to judges, prosecutors and other NJ professionals; learn Macintosh computer and desktop publishing; type rough draft articles; gain some legal and publication experience; work on marketing and client relations projects; help organize seminars for AARP members and other senior groups and publicize the seminars.

Qualifications: Part-time volunteer wanted to work at least 10 hours per week.


Natural Resources Defense Council NRDC
New York, NY

Description: Everett Public Service Internship: Through litigation, advocacy, and scientific research, NRDC works to preserve and enhance the environment, protect public health, and provide for the conservation of land and natural resources. Seniors, 1st & 2nd yr. law students are needed to work in NRDC's coastal, energy, environmental justice, and urban projects.

Qualifications: Internships are limited to seniors or law students.

Compensation: Interns receive $220 per week for up to ten weeks. The Everett Public Service Internship Program provides the funding for you to work at this organization.


YWCA of Pierce County
Tacoma, WA

Description: The Domestic Violence Prevention Intern researches, plans, and implements various programs in community education and support. Assist in the creation of a Domestic Violence Support Group Facilitator Training and conduct various Support Groups. Assist the YWCA in preparing for the Week Without Violence. The YWCA creates opportunities for women and girls to lead purposeful, powerful lives. The YWCA provides shelter, counsel, and support to survivors of domestic violence as well as programs in domestic violence prevention.

Qualifications: Support group experience helpful, but not essential. Experience in the creation of trainings and program development. Good research skills.


Project on Government Oversight (POGO)
Washington, DC

Description: POGO investigates and exposes abuse of power, mismanagement and acquiescence to corporate interests by the federal government. The organization aims to refocus public policy from protecting the powerful to pursuing public and environmental justice. Interns will assist in researching government subservience to special interests. Filing Freedom of Information Act requests, attending hearings and researching at the Library of Congress. On occasion, interns work with whistleblowers. About 1/4 of the intern's time will be spent doing administrative work. Interns will gain experience working with the Executive branch, Congress, the media, and other nonprofit organizations. They will work to protect the public interest while observing how Washington works and learning to use the tools available for citizens to research the government and corporations.

Qualifications: No specific major needed. Undergraduates, graduates, and law students have been utilized. Working knowledge of WordPerfect is desirable.

Compensation: $500 stipend. Hours: 35 hrs/week.


Public Defender Services
New Haven, CT

Description: Legal representation of indigent criminal defendants. Interview public defender clients for eligibility and bond and defense purposes. Assist attorneys in case preparation. Legal research.

Qualifications: Strong language skills, written/oral and computer skills. 8-10 positions available. Criminal Law.
