Courses & Credits

The Skidmore in Beijing program curriculum integrates intensive language study with additional content courses offered in English. All courses, including the language course, have a strong field studies focus. Courses are offered through the IES Beijing Center and are taught by local faculty in conjunction with our Resident Director.

There are two required courses in which all students enroll: Mandarin Language in China and Field Studies in China.

Using language skills! Buying pearls on field trip to market.Students elect two additional courses, taught in Engliish, from possible subject areas such as Art, Anthropology, Economics, Government, and History. Participants are expected to carry a full course load of 15-16 credits. All course work taken in Beijing is reported on a Skidmore College transcript. Skidmore College students will have their grades from Beijing computed in their cumulative GPA and 300-level credits taken in Beijing may count toward Skidmore’s “maturity-level” credit requirements.
