The Field Study

Field-study opportunities are an integral part of the academic structure of the Skidmore in Beijing program. Prior to departing, students will choose a topic related to contemporary China, about which they will conduct field research once in Beijing. The field work will be directed by the field studies course professor and carried out with the assistance of Chinese student peer advisors. While the peer advisors will help with language in conducting interviews, participants are expected to use their own knowledge of Chinese language and culture to carry out the field research. The goal is to involve students as much as possible in contemporary Chinese life and culture.
