The Skidmore-IES Connection
IES,
founded in 1950, is a non-profit study abroad organization with
27 academic programs worldwide. As a consortium composed of more
than 155 selective U.S. universities and colleges, IES annually
enrolls more than 3,500 students in its study abroad programs.
Its mission is “to provide students and U.S. colleges and
universities with high-quality academic study abroad programs
that foster intercultural development.” IES is one of the
leaders in the field due to its continued dedication to academic
rigor, health and safety, and providing a wide range of opportunities
for students.
Skidmore has worked closely with IES to develop an academic and
co-curricular program of the highest quality. The College's affiliation
with the Institute for the International Education of Students
has a long and successful history. Skidmore began its affiliation
with IES in 1981. Throughout the years our faculty and administrators
have served on numerous IES committees and have participated in
many site evaluations, conferences, and workshops. We are pleased
to be able to partner with one of the world’s top organizations
in order to offer Skidmore students this tremendous opportunity.
The IES Beijing Center
Beijing students will have full access to the IES facilities,
both the Beijing Center and the IES Residence Hall. The IES Center,
located on the Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) campus,
offers computer facilities and a small library. Students will
also have access to the library at BFSU. The director will have
office space at the IES Beijing Center for holding office hours
and individual appointments with students.
