Paris Courses

The Academic Program

The program begin with an intensive orientation regarding France, its history, language and culture. Once the regular academic year starts, students take classes at one or more of the institutions of higher learning in Paris, the choice dependent upon each individual's program.  As a complement to class attendance, the program also organises frequent cultural events of various kinds within the Paris area, and guest lecturers are invited to discuss questions of political, social, and cultural significance throughout the year.

Skidmore College has an official exchange agreement with the University of Paris IV, (Sorbonne) and strong academic relationships with the University of Paris X, Nanterre, the Institut Britannique, A.B.S., American Business School, ESMOD (Ecole Supérieure de la Mode), and ENC (Ecole Supérieure de Commerce).  Students on both the full-year and semester programs may enroll in courses in Business, Cinema, Theater, History, History of Art, History of Music, Instrumental Music, Language, Literature, Phonetics, Politics and a wide variety of Studio Art courses in Ceramics, Drawing, Jewelry, Painting, Photography and Sculpture.  Courses in Dance and Physical Education may also be taken at a number of centers in Paris.

For some courses taken at French institutions, Skidmore will organise tutorials to help students acquire the methodology necessary for success.

Internship  experiences are also available in a variety of fields for students with appropriate qualifications and experience. These fields include: Business, Psychology, Government, Art, teaching English at various levels in Parisian public schools and colleges.

Skidmore provides general registration numbers for most French university system courses.  This enables students to plan their program for the year with their academic advisors prior to departure.  Most courses carry 3 semester hours of credit.

In addition to the courses listed on this page (see navigation bar on left), courses are also available upon request in certain other disciplines such as Biology, Chinese, Computer Science,Geology, German, Italian, Spanish.
