Actual course offerings each semester will
vary depending on students’ needs and what is available
through the host universities. Selected courses are accompanied
by tutorials that aim to help students succeed in that given discipline.
Students also may choose from courses offered at the Skidmore
Center. Two courses given at the Center – one in advanced
language, the other in contemporary French society – are
required of all students. Additional courses
include French language and literature, art history, studio art,
government, and other liberal arts areas. All courses
are taught in French, with a few exceptions. Course selection
depends on your level of proficiency in French and prerequisites,
if applicable. Courses may also available upon request in certain
other disciplines such as Biology, Chinese, Computer Science,
Geology, German, Italian, Spanish, et. al. These requests should
be discussed in advance with the Office of International Programs.
All participants are expected to carry a full course load (14-17
credits per semester). French language majors at the advanced
language level are required to take one course at a French university.
All coursework taken in Paris is reported on a Skidmore transcript.
If you are a Skidmore student, grades will be computed in the
college’s GPA and 300-level credits taken in Paris may count
toward the “maturity-level” credit requirement. If
you are not a Skidmore student, you should check with your home
campus for information on credit transfer.
Skidmore’s academic departments and programs have designated
specific study abroad programs that best fit the curricular needs
of their majors and minors. Skidmore students should check the
approved
programs list for their major or minor department to see if
this program has been approved.
