The
University Without Walls was in the vanguard in establishing a
baccalaureate program for adult learners whose busy personal and
professional lives made traditional on-campus study impossible.
Focusing
on the merits of individual students, regardless of age or life
circumstances, UWW sought to create a new educational model. The
model has worked exceedingly well. UWW's success is written in
the individual stories of more than 1400 students who have
earned their Skidmore degrees.
Our
FAQs are evidence of our flexible learning environment!
Can
I transfer my previous credits to UWW?
The
credits you've earned at a community college or other accredited
institutions can be put toward a UWW degree provided the grade
was a C or above. Most of our students have prior college work.
Is
it possible to get credit for my work experience?
Your
UWW advisors will discuss your professional and volunteer background
to determine whether you have experiential learning that might
contribute to your degree program. Many receive credit upon
the evaluation of experiential learning.
What
fields of concentration are available?
Through
UWW's flexible program, you may focus in one of Skidmore's traditional
disciplines, such as English, History, Psychology, Studio Art,
Business, Theatre, etc., or develop an individualized focus
suited to your interests and goals.
How
can I study?
Students
create their programs by choosing from courses from accredited
colleges, UWW online courses, and independent study courses
and internships with Skidmore or other approved faculty.
Can
I earn my degree entirely through UWW online courses?
Through
Skidmore's connection with the Sloan Asynchronous Learning Network,
you can complete your studies entirely online in one of these
interdisciplinary concentrations:
- American
History and Culture
- Communication
and the Arts
- Human
Nature and Behavior
Do
I have to move to Saratoga Springs, NY?
UWW
has no residency requirements, but does require two visits
to the Skidmore Campus: an interview when you apply to UWW
and a meeting with your advisors when you enroll. With
our online courses and other distance learning options, you
can complete your degree from anywhere in the world.
Graduating
students are invited to march at Commencement and to present
their work at the Academic Festival.

How
will I receive the guidance I need to complete my degree?
Students
work closely with two advisors. An advisor from the UWW office
helps you design the broad outline of your program, and an advisor
from the Skidmore faculty guides you in your chosen concentration.
Will
I receive a Skidmore College degree for my UWW experience?
Yes!
UWW students earn their bachelor's degrees from Skidmore College
and can participate in the annual commencement ceremonies with
students from the residential college. UWW graduates have been
widely accepted to prestigious graduate programs.
How
can I possibly afford Skidmore College?
UWW's
fee structure is different from that of Skidmore's residential
program. Review our fee
structure online and feel free to
contact us if you have any questions!
