Should I apply for financial aid?

Yes. Almost everyone who is thinking about returning to school should apply for federal and state grants. Government agencies consider many factors in determining an individual's eligibility for aid. Although you may be ineligible for one program, you may qualify for loans or grants from another agency.

When should I apply?

You should apply as soon as you are thinking about returning to school. Within 4-8 weeks after applying, you will be notified of your eligibility. At this point, you should contact the Financial Aid Officer at UWW who will discuss with you how your aid will work for your potential program. Each year you are enrolled in UWW you will need to reapply for aid.

Where do I get financial aid applications?

Please contact our office and we will be happy to send you an application. We require that you complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). New York residents must also complete a New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) award application. These applications are easy to complete and have no fee.

What financial aid programs are available to UWW students?

Eligible students can receive aid from federal Pell grants, Stafford loans, New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), New York State Aid for Part-Time Study (APTS), and veterans benefits.

Will financial aid pay for all of my educational expenses?

It is possible that all UWW expenses could be covered by financial aid. Each student's program costs are different, and the amount covered by aid depends on how much learning a student does and where the learning takes place. In some cases, financial aid can even be applied toward living expenses.

Will I still be bound by government regulations as a non-traditional student?

Yes. UWW students receiving federal and state aid must adhere to the same guidelines as traditional, residential students. Aid recipients will notice some constraints on the flexibility of their programs.

I know I can enroll in UWW at any time during the year. Will that affect my financial aid awards?

It is recommended to students who will be receiving financial aid hat they enroll at times which more closely match a traditional academic year. However, students are not bound by this recommendation and should consult with the Financial Aid Officer to discuss the financial aid impact.

Is there any other scholarship money available?

Each year UWW awards scholarships to a limited number of students. Applications will be mailed to all active students at the beginning of the process.
