If
you would like to construct a course not listed
in the course
catalog at Skidmore, UWW, or elsewhere, you may
set up an independent study with Skidmore faculty
or a faculty member at another accredited
institution in your community. Please note that
an independent study, unlike a classroom or
online course, is not bound by the
traditional semester timeline. As of June 1,
2005, the independent study fee is $275 per
credit hour. If your independent study is
with an instructor from outside Skidmore, you
are responsible for the fee. No refunds will
be granted after the independent
study has begun.
Independent
Study with Skidmore Faculty
First, consult your academic advisor, who can see if there is
a Skidmore faculty member available to supervise an independent
study. If so, please fill out the independent study registration
form, available here.
If
not, you may initiate an independent study with an instructor
from another institution, provided that your academic advisor
determines that the instructor is qualified and the subject
matter appropriate to your focus. Please submit a faculty resume
and description of the course to your advisor.
Internships
When it is appropriate to their curricula, you may receive credit
for a supervised, college-level internship. The approval
of your academic advisor and the internship registration
form are necessary prior to beginning the learning experience.
