Dear Prospective Students,

Mary Lou BatesIn the universe of highly selective private liberal arts colleges, Skidmore truly stands out. To be sure, we offer students an outstanding academic experience, a rich co-curricular life, competitive athletics, challenging and deeply caring faculty mentors, and abounding opportunities for engagement, international study, volunteerism, and service. But we try and do all this within an approach we call creative thought matters.

You can read the definition of Creative Thought Matters (CTM) on our website, but it's also extraordinarily easy to see in action. You can, for example, recognize CTM in the fact that one of our largest majors – at an arts-infused liberal arts college! – is Management and Business. That we don't just tolerate but encourage double majors and minors. That our focus on interdisciplinary study begins your first term and continues to inform your entire experience. That our pre-med students are found in ceramics studios and music practice rooms as frequently as art or music majors, which they occasionally are. That the richness and wonder and interconnectedness of the world is something that transforms you from your very first day on campus, not something put on hold until the senior year.

In part, at least, that's what Skidmore is about. But it's what you're about that's more to the point. To that end, if our website and admissions materials resonate with your concept of a liberal arts education, please accept my personal invitation to visit us and learn more about this extraordinary college. And by all means, feel free to contact me with any questions or requests.

Sincerely,

Mary Lou Bates
