Dear Classmates,

Happy New Year and greetings from cold and snowy New England ! I know many of you have been surviving the winter months up north (and some loving it), and others are basking in the sunny south. Wherever you are, I hope you’re well and still warmed with the memories of our phenomenally successful 50th Reunion in June.

Although many worked hard for this great achievement, and we send them big hugs of appreciation, accolades must go to those who took on the really big jobs: Marcie Clausen Gray as Class President, Jo Schmidt Madden as Reunion Chairman, Ann Ballinger Wilcox as her special assistant, Sally Neuweiler Henrie, Fund Chair magnifique, Mary Hamilton McLaughlin and Cindy Wallace Bernart as Friends of the Presidents Chairs and Jody Davenport – our beloved Jody – who from graduation on was a leader like no other. Her enthusiasm, spirit and love for Skidmore were ever present. We were terribly saddened to learn of her death in October. The endless effort for this 50th Reunion on the part of these classmates, already a part of Skidmore Alumni history and a benchmark to which future classes will strive, shall be remembered by us always. For those of you who may not have heard, Anne Keffer, who was working on the Reunion Committee when she became ill, died in July, and Ann Gordon Bodwell died in August.

Now we have a new reunion year to look forward to, and although 2009 sounds terribly distant, we all know it will be here far sooner than we would like. Jo and Balli will return for an encore as co-chairs of the 55 th – Balli also as Class Secretary; Lilli Brunner Kalmenson, as you know, is our new Fund Chair; and Mary Hamilton McLaughlin, Sally Neuweiler Henrie, and Cindy Wallace Bernart will again serve as Friends of the Presidents Chairs.

Let’s work toward 2009 with the same enthusiasm and fun that was evident during the previous years. As I take over for Marcie, I remain in awe of her enormous contribution and am proud to serve in her footsteps. I invite all of you to join in and help keep the spirit and enthusiasm we all felt last June alive for our next coming together for another special moment as Skidmore family.
