Sibyl Waterman Haley '71
Alumna Trustee
Term: 2005-2009
English major Sibyl Waterman Haley 71 has covered all the bases of alumni volunteerism. After graduation, she worked in the Admissions Office and, upon moving to Maine, took on a position as an alumni admissions contact and alumni club volunteer. This led to class volunteer positions as secretary, class agent, and 25th reunion fund chair. Haley was first vice president on the alumni board 197982, served on the nominating committee, and chaired the Reunion Giving Program Advisory Committee from 1999 to 2002. She returns to the Board this year to accept the position of alumna trustee.
"There seems to be a natural transition from one volunteer position to another," she says, "and the alumni board offers the chance to affect even greater and more positive changes for the College." Her board position brings her back to campus often, "emotionally as well as physically," she says. "It affirms my ties to Skidmore and reinvigorates me to work harder for the College." Though Haley has at times been coerced into volunteer positions she wasnt sure she wanted, "each case was a learning experience," she says. "My desire to give something back, to offer even more improved opportunities for further Skidmore students, is too strong for me to deny."
