Steve Rosenbaum '83 Creates New Media Channels with Magify.net
Steve Rosenbaum '83 is the founder and CEO of Magnify.net; a video publishing platform that allows anyone from web publishers and media companies to individuals and entrepreneurs to integrate user-generated videos into an already existing web site or to create a video channel from scratch. The Magnify.net platform searches, sorts and delivers videos based on a sites unique interest. Magnify.net users can then get feedback on their web sites by sharing their videos with other users who then rate and rank them for relevancy and entertainment value. Magnify.net believes that everyone has a story to tell and they wanted to provide a platform for you to tell that story with a video.
Steve has always loved to tell stories and he had plenty of opportunities to do so while he was the manager of the Skidmore Radio Station WSPN. After Skidmore Steve switched gears from broadcasting over the radio to broadcasting over the web. After graduation Steve, a serial entrepreneur, stayed in Saratoga and created two media based companies. He then moved to New York City, where he worked on producing films for a number of well known television stations such as A&E, Discovery, TLC, The History Channel, National Geographic, Court TV, HBO, VH1…and the list goes on. Steve also created the first series produced entirely by viewers called MTV Unfiltered. He is also very well known for directing 7 Days in September , a film about New York's reaction to 9/11. It was after all of these accomplishments that Steve founded Magnify.net, which is currently in a great position in its field since the online video spending is estimated to reach 2.9 billion by 2010.
Part of Steve's job at Magnify.net is to find investors to invest in start up companies and he was able to use the Skidmore Business Network to find fellow alum Rob Adams '89 who is a lead investor in raising money for Magnify.net!
Despite the success of Steve and Magnify.net, when asked where he will be five years down the road Steve said he is unlikely to be working with Magnify.net. He will probably sell the company in about three years and given his record, probably be moving on to another entrepreneurial adventure.
