Jordan Ramer '95, Director of Business Development, AeroVironment
-What keeps me busy? Where do I it?
I am focused on bringing clean/energy related technologies to market. I believe we are at a crossroads, where global warming, environmental awareness, escalating energy costs, and the need for energy independence have created pent up demand for technologies that address these issues. I have spent the last five years helping to build a company in the clean/energy technology industry and hope to continue to influence and impact this sector for the foreseeable future.
-What's my competitive edge/what makes me good at what I do?
I try to think ahead. Hard work and just being smart are not enough these days. Vision, adaptability, and perseverance (much of what Skidmore helped me to formalize and develop with its liberal arts education) have become my competitive edge.
-What gets me out of bed in the morning?
In addition to the light coming through my bedroom window and my wife waking me up, a drive for change and new things.
-Right now, I am working on.....
A bunch of things. I am helping to launch one of my company's products into the European and Asian markets. This puts me on the road regularly meeting with customers, partners, and potential employees.
I'm also managing the launch of a new set of information technology products.
-If I weren't doing this, I'd be........
Traveling, staying physically active, volunteering my time, pursuing other entrepreneurial opportunities.
-Where I want to be in five years.....
I'd like to continue to be a part of starting and growing businesses. Ultimately, I would like to be an investor in clean/energy technology companies or running my own company within the space.
-What I would like to get from SBN.....
I'd like to connect with others and expand my network.
-What I have to offer SBN.....
I enjoy connecting with like-minded people and I can't think of a better group than Skidmore Alums. I'm happy to help any Skidmore folks with career guidance, business ventures, information, or anyway I can.
-Fondest Skidmore memory.......
Too many to choose from...

As a sole proprietor, I handle all aspects of running my business which includes representing companies looking for office space, as well as working with numerous companies on C-level business development. When not engaged in business, I co-chair a golf tournament for a local charity and I spend as much time as possible with my wife and two daughters.
-What's my competitive edge/what makes me good at what I do?
My network of business relationships and the trust that my clients have that I will accomplish whatever goals we establish, whether its finding office space or providing them access to prospective customers.
-What gets me out of bed in the morning?
Typically I just wake up…if not one of my girls does it for me. I enjoy being my own boss and having a variety of challenges to confront each day.
-Right now, I am working on.....
This questionnaire. When I finish it, I will continue juggling my numerous client responsibilities.
-If I weren't doing this, I'd be....
In spite of the passion I had when prosecuting child abuse years ago, I was burned out. However, if raising a family did not require such extensive resources, I would probably be involved in some type of full time child advocacy program.
-Where I want to be in five years.....
Continuing to run this business and perhaps a little wiser.
-What I would like to get from SBN.....
The opportunity to expand my network of business contacts throughout the country.
-What I have to offer SBN.....
My dedication to working with people and helping them develop their own network.
-Fondest Skidmore memory......
My wife always said it appears as though I had too much fun at Skidmore…

-What keeps me busy (ie what do you do)? Where do I it?
We are a commercial finance company that provides equipment financing to venture capital backed startup companies and turnaround situations..basically unbankable credits due to lack of revenues or losses.
We also provide asset based loans to small and medium sized companies. We're based in Boston, but we work nationally. Some of our clients in the past have included companies that are NOW public...Earthlink, AOL, Medimmune and Sports Authority.
-What's my competitive edge/what makes me good at what you do?
Its not what makes "me" good..its that our company provides a service to companies that could not otherwise secure debt financing through traditional sources such as banks. My competitive edge is that my competitors all take equity and I don't.
-What gets me out of bed in the morning?
I have a company to run!
-Right now, I am working on....
Several deals...all VC backed...none profitable...interesting concepts.
-If I weren't doing this, I'd be........
Skiing in the winter and riding in the summer and traveling in-between
-Where I want to be in five years.....
Still here...but at least double in size.
-What I would like to get from SBN.....
Networking opportunities.
-What I have to offer SBN.....
Services of my company.
-Fondest Skidmore memory.....
It could be the road trip to see the Dead at Colgate in a borrowed car. It was foggy so we drove with the door open so we could see the road lines. The car smelled..but we couldn't find anything and we didn't have a key to the trunk. Turned out there was a dead quail in the trunk (her brother had borrowed the car and had been hunting) ....and Moore Hall....lots of great memories I'm sure..just can't remember them!

I am the Marketing and Communication Lead for Accenture's NY Metro offices. Accenture is a global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company. With more than 126,000 people in 48 countries, the company generated net revenues of US$15.55 billion for the fiscal year ended Aug. 31, 2005.
-What's my competitive edge/what makes me good at what I do?
I have been "doing" marketing/business development for over a decade and bring a variety of industry experience into my role (I have worked for the government, for a politician, for technology start-ups and for law firms). I also know how to network, but more importantly to manage my relationships. I am confident that I can get to almost anyone in NY or get to someone who knows that person.
-What gets me out of bed in the morning?
My alarm clock telling me it's time to go to the gym.....
-Right now, I am working on.....
About 10 different projects including our sponsorship of the 2006 NYC Triathlon, a movie premiere, our national non profit sponsorships and an internal newsletter.
-If I weren't doing this, I'd be........
Given unlimited resources, I would probably own a bar on an island....
-Where I want to be in five years.....
No idea...
-What I would like to get from SBN.....
More contacts, more relationships and a larger network
-What I have to offer SBN.....
All of the above and a strong link to the College.
-Fondest Skidmore memory.......
I have way too many.
