Amazon River Journey
March 16 to 25, 2007
Join alumni, parents and friends from Skidmore and Union Colleges for the adventure of a lifetime on a cruise down the Amazon River to explore the vast rainforests and untamed waters of one of the world's most exotic and mysterious natural realms. You will travel on one of the impeccable Jewels of the Amazon, intimate ships designed specifically to cruise the Amazon that evoke the 19th century's age of exploration while providing 21st-century amenities.
In an atmosphere of adventure and romance, venture beyond the Amazon's legendary headwaters at the confluence of the Río Ucayali and the Río Marañón and into a region of remote jungles and black-water rivers. From the ship, our expert naturalist guides will lead you on hikes through lush rainforests and on special excursions down some of the Amazon's secretive tributaries to visit local villages and observe unique wildlife including pink river dolphins, capuchin monkeys and three-toed sloths.
Also, experience Peru's historic and cosmopolitan capital, Lima, and take advantage of a special optional post-tour program to legendary Machu Picchu, the mystical lost city of the Incas. On this extension, you will travel to Cuzco to board a train for the scenic journey through the Andes to the sacred city of the Incas.
