Farmland Preservation to Be Topic


UAlbany Professor Tom Daniels will discuss “Farmland Preservation for Growth Management and Environmental Quality — The American Experience,” in a talk scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002.

The lecture, sponsored by Skidmore’s Environmental Studies Program, will begin at 8 p.m. in Emerson Auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public.

Daniels, director of UAlbany’s Environmental Planning Program, is a nationally known expert on farmland preservation who has worked successfully to preserve acres of open space in a number of different communities. His most recent books are titled When City and Country Collide: Managing Growth in the Metropolitan Fringe (1998, Island Press); Holding Our Ground: Protecting America’s Farms and Farmland (1997, Island Press); and The Small Town Planning Handbook, second edition (1995, Planners Press).
