[2/5 - 7/31] "Environment and Object in Recent African Art"

"Environment and Object in Recent African Art" will examine recent African art according to two fluid and often intertwined aesthetic and conceptual frameworks: the impact of the environment on contemporary African life, and the use of found objects and appropriated materials as a recurring presence in current African art.

Curated by Lisa Aronson, associate professor of Art History at Skidmore, and John Weber, Dayton Director of the Tang.

[3/26 - 7/31] Tang Museum Exhibit: "Alumni Invitational 3"

The third Alumni Invitational organized by the Tang Museum. Presented as a part of the Tang's 10th anniversary, four Skidmore alumni artists will be shown in the museum's Wachenheim Gallery. Several works by each artist will offer a focused look at the diverse and inventive practices of Skidmore's alumni. Artists will be announced in Spring 2011.

"And All You Suck In Is Oil" presents works from the Tang Collection by artists Rita Ackermann, Kim Jones, and Marlene McCarty. The exhibition takes its title from a series of McCarty prints and alludes to the issues of desire and violence explored in each of the artist's works.

"MELT" is inspired by the notion that the material world is not fixed and certain, "MELT" presents works from the museum's collection in which artists expose the fluid nature of things we might not usually consider fluid. The works in this exhibition probe the boundaries between visible and invisible, organic and inorganic, solid and liquid, exploring ideas about structure, perception, mutability, and interconnectedness.
