Frequently Asked Questions
When will I hear about my application?
Application review will begin February 15, 2015. Applicants who submit completed auditions by February 15 will learn of their acceptance by March 15. Applications will continue to be accepted past February 15 until the Institute is filled. A wait list will be established for the program.
Can I get a ride to campus from the airport or bus station?
We are unable to offer transportation services to everyone; therefore you must find your own way to campus. Travel suggestions will be offered to accepted students in the spring.
Are students supervised in the dormitories?
The program has a qualified Resident Staff that lives with program participants in the dormitories. The staff is responsible for workshop students, attends daily classes and meals, plans extracurricular activities, and is a great resource for all program participants.
Are the dormitory rooms single or double occupancy?
We do our best to offer participants single rooms but, if space is limited, we will house participants in a double room with a roommate of the same gender and age. Registered participants may request specific roommates.
What should I pack?
Participants are responsible for bringing their own instrument and all necessary equipment (staff paper, reeds, strings, mouthpieces, etc.). A packing list will be provided for Accepted Candidates and be available on the website in the spring.
Will students perform at the Institute?
Student concerts will be held in the Helen Filene Ladd Concert Hall in the Zankel Music Center. Please refer to the final program schedule in the spring for specific times and look for an announcement regarding the Live Stream link from the Zankel Music Center. Family and friends are encouraged to attend in person or watch online!
Do I need formal attire for the student concerts?
Formal concert attire is required for Institute performances (once each week). Since Week 2 focuses on Community Engagement, you will want to bring appropriate clothing when representing Decoda and Skidmore in off-campus engagement activities. All other activities (classes, rehearsals, meals, dorm time) are very casual.
Is there a recommended place for my family and friends to stay when they drop me off
or pick me up?
The Saratoga Springs Chamber of Commerce Web site is a good resource for local hospitality and entertainment.
