Government Internships

Students work with mayor and Saratoga Planning Department
Skidmore students work with both the mayor and the Saratoga Planning Department to shape local environmental policy.

Below are organizations where ESS students have had local internships working with state and local government offices and with non-profits and NGOs that work to develop and advocate for environmental policies.

For opportunities away from Skidmore, check with available internship programs at all levels of governing: Federal level (Congress, EPA), State level (Governor’s Office, State environmental agency), local level (mayor’s office). Also consider groups that advocate for environmental policies. Also, political internships with elected officials can provide hands-on experience with local environmental policy. You can also check the Education / Outdoor Leadership page, which lists many websites that offer internships and jobs in public policy, in addition to internships in education.
