year—or more important. Of course, there are the understandable concerns about fitting
in, being away from home, making friends, and coping with the rigors of college course
work. We also know that students who don’t connect in a rich and meaningful way with
faculty members and peers, and who fail to identify an intellectual interest or passion,
are less likely to succeed. That’s one reason why Skidmore developed the First-Year
Experience—including the First-Year Experience in London program—not only to ease
these concerns but to ensure that virtually every Skidmore first-year student reaches
his or her potential.
