IPEDS Reports

Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System

IPEDS gathers information from every college, university, and educational institution that participates in federal student financial aid programs. Federal agencies, state governments, educational institutions, researchers, media, students, and parents rely on IPEDS for information on postsecondary institutions. There are several ways to access and use IPEDS data for research and analyses. The basic steps to do so are described below; however, you can do much more with the IPEDS Data Center, including downloading data sets for analyses. Contact Skidmore's IR office if you need assistance or have questions!

IPEDS Data Feedback Reports (DFR)
Released annually, the IPEDS DFR is intended to provide institutions with a context for examining the data they have submitted to IPEDS. The report compares institutions with either a custom-created or NCES-generated group of peer institutions based on a wide-range of IPEDS survey data, such as unduplicated headcount, student enrollment, tuition, financial aid, and graduation rates.
• Go to http://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/datacenter
• Select 'Customize DFR'
• Enter 'Skidmore College'
• Select 'Data Feedback Reports' and the year(s) you desire
• Customized DFRs with more derived variables and/or different comparison groups can also be created here

Institutional Comparison Groups
There are several ways to use and create comparison groups in the IPEDS Data Center.
• Skidmore's selected peer group is already in the Data Center under 'Saved Group'
• You can also create other custom comparison groups using 'EZ Group,' etc.
• Or you can also upload a *.UID file which contains the institutions with which you desire to compare.
• This .zip file below contains Peer Group IDs, Aspirant Group IDs, and Peer Group & Aspirant Group IDs. Right click on the link and select "Save As". You will then need to unzip the folder onto your own computer.

IPEDS College Navigator
This is similar to IPEDS Institutional Profiles in the Data Center above but is a bit more user-friendly as it is used by parents, students, and counselors when searching for colleges.
• Go to https://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator
• Enter 'Skidmore College'
• Click on 'Skidmore College' and then 'Expand All'
• This will display a profile of Skidmore College based on the most recently available IPEDS data.
