Browsing Collection
The browsing collection contains popular fiction and non-fiction in the Galant Reading Room on the first floor.

Career Planning
The Career Planning Book collection is housed in the Galant Reading Room, located on the first floor of the library. Its purpose is two-fold: (a) to enable the exploration of careers and employment possibilities in one's chosen field of study; and (b) to provide information on where job opportunities exist, and guidelines on how to successfully pursue these opportunities.

Collection development concentrates on the subject disciplines of Skidmore undergraduates, as well as on providing the basic tools - employer directories, resume guides, etc. - for job seekers. The collection complements the bibliographic resources of the Office of Career Services. The library's career planning books can be checked out - there is a loan limit of two books per borrower, with a loan period of seven days. Use Lucy2 (Local Catalog) to search for and locate specific resources in this collection.

Circulating Collection
The library has more than 300,000 books in the general collection, with extensive holdings in English and American literature and art and art history. Other strengths are in political science; American, British, and Medieval history; and business and economics.

Books are located as follows:

Library of Congress Call Numbers
A-G, N, TR 2nd floor
H-M, P 3rd floor
Q-Z 4th floor

Curriculum Library
The curriculum collection supporting the elementary education major is located at the southwest corner of the third floor. These materials are limited to a twenty-one day loan period. Assistance is provided at the reference desk on the first floor, and specific questions about the collection should be directed to Linda Hofmann, ext 5516, lhofmann@skidmore.edu.

Reference Collection
The reference collection is located on the first floor of the building. It contains encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, bibliographies, handbooks, and numerous indexes and abstracts both in print and in computer-based formats. There are computer workstations located around the central reference desk to access digital reference works.

DVDs, Videos, Sound Recordings, and Multimedia Sources
The library's large collection of DVDs and videos includes popular films, classic films and documentaries, available for both classroom and personal viewing. Music on compact disc, records, and tapes includes a comprehensive collection of classical recordings, works in popular music, and folk music from around the world.

The library acquires general multimedia software, such as reference tools and software, requested by faculty to support their courses. DVDs and CDs may be played on any of the library's computer terminals (headphones are available at the circulation desk). Group viewings may be arranged in one of several available media/group study rooms located throughout the library.

Recordings, videos, multimedia software, and headphones may be requested at the circulation desk.
