Photographic Duplication Policy and Fees

The Department of Special Collections allows duplication of documents and images in its collections within the constraints of several guidelines:
  • Under no circumstances may materials from the Department of Special Collections be removed for duplication or loan.
  • All duplication will be done by Special Collections staff; individuals may not photocopy, scan or photograph collections items themselves. Due to the fragile nature of some Special Collections materials, staff reserves the right to refuse a reproduction request that may jeopardize an item's safety.
  • Photocopying of documents and images will be done by a member of the Special Collections staff at your request (if the condition of the item permits copying).  Staff will copy up to 20 pages during your visit; copy orders of more than 20 pages will be sent to you when they are complete (there will be a shipping charge for orders that need to be sent off-campus).  See the Duplication Fee Schedule below for photocopying fees.
  • Special Collections staff will scan documents and images for you (if the condition of the item permits scanning) to your specifications.  Scanning requests will be filled as time permits, and may require several days of processing time.  Scanned images may be saved onto a floppy or zip disk (supplied by you), printed onto copier paper (black and white only), or printed onto photographic paper.  See the Duplication Fee Schedule below for scanning fees.
  • Photographs are printed onto archival quality paper.  Allow 4 to 5 weeks for delivery.
  • The following schedule of prices lists only the fees associated with the reproduction of an item from the collection.  A researcher who is interested in publishing, broadcasting, or exhibiting reproductions of items in the collection must submit a Permission to Publish Application (obtained through Special Collections) and must pay a use fee, as indicated below in the Schedule of Use Fees.
