Skidmore's Equestrian Tradition

Skidmore College has been associated with horses and riding since the school's founding. A formal riding program was established early in the college's history and before this, Skidmore students took daily advantage of horse rentals at area stables to ride through a Saratoga Springs more quiet and rural than exists today. In the twenty-first century, Skidmore College's riding program is one of the top ranked in the country, winning eleven Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Region II titles, as well as five IHSA National Hunt Seat team titles.

Donations to the Skidmore College archives at the Department of Special Collections are always welcomed. We are particularly in need of equestrian photography and memorabilia from the 1970's onwards.

Skidmore's Equestrian Tradition was an exhibit presented in the Lucy Scribner Library by the library's Department of Special Collections. Although the physical exhibit has been taken down, you may still enjoy all the materials and writing included in the exhibit - as well as much additional material - on this site.
