Information on Finding...

Improving your Search Results by Setting Limits in LUCY2

Setting search limits allows you to search our collection by Language, Collection, Media Format, Geographic information, Publication information and more. So, if you are interested in finding, for example, videorecordings of opera, but only in French, setting limits would be an efficient and effective way to produce the results you seek.

  • Begin in LUCY 2, Basic or Advanced Search screen.
  • In the lower right hand corner, click Limits button.
  • A new screen will appear, featuring 6 search boxes.
  • In the first (1st) search box, arrow down to select French.
  • In the third (3rd) search box, arrow down to select videorecording.
  • Click Apply Limits button.
  • You’ll be returned to the Advanced Search screen. You’ll see a message on the screen: Search limits are in effect! which means the catalog will be searched for videorecordings in French only.
  • Next, you’ll need to enter the subject of your search, for example, opera.
  • In the Search for: box enter opera.
  • In the Search in: box choose default, which is Keyword Anywhere.
  • Hit search button.
  • Two (2) records will appear. The location listed will be: Video—Available at Circulation Desk.
  • Bring the Call Number(s) to the Circulation Desk, along with a valid Skidmore ID, and check out requested video(s).

If you want to use a VCR in Scribner Library, read about Reserving and/or Using Media Rooms in Scribner Library or check with Circulation for availability. Media Rooms 118 and 126 have VCRs.

Browsing Collection

The browsing collection contains popular fiction and non-fiction in the Galant Reading Room on the first floor. These collections are received on a rental basis and are replaced periodically. Any individual with borrowing privileges from Scribner Library can borrow items from this collection. Books in this collection circulate for two weeks and may be renewed once.

There is no limit on the number of books for any one borrower (other than those limits imposed by the class of borrower, e.g., 10 books at a time for Friends of the Library Borrowers). Books are shelved by last name of author; if more than one title by the same author is currently in the collection, those books are first by author, then alphabetically by title.
