Watching a Film (DVD) or Listening to a CD in Scribner Library

The most convenient way to listen to a CD and/or watch a DVD in the Scribner Library is at the public computers (1st, 2nd, 4th floors), using headphones checked out from Circulation. You can use a DVD-Rom drive to play movies or play CDs; a CD drive can only be used to play CDs. It will not play DVDs.
  • On a PC: Most are equipped with combined DVD-Rom/CD drives. To listen to a movie while viewing it on the screen, or to listen to music, plug in the headphones. Lift the front flap of the CPU, which is usually a different color than the rest of the unit, and has the manufacturer icon on front. See raised image of headphones, usually at right, and plug in there. Other PC CPUs have headphones jack at the back of the unit.
  • On a Mac: Most are equipped with CD drives; only a few are equipped with DVD-Rom drives. Look for label on CPU. To plug in the headphones on a DVD-Rom drive-enabled Mac, go to the back of the CPU, look for the megaphone image with sound waves emanating from it, and plug in there. To plug in the headphones on a CD drive-enabled Mac, go to the back of the CPU, look for the headphones image, and plug in there. Any questions, see Reference Librarian at desk (Ext. 5503) or ask for assistance at the IT help desk (Ext. 5900).
If you require a media room for listening to a CD or watching a DVD, go to Reserving Media Rooms in Scribner Library and follow reservation instructions.
