Saratoga Springs Smart City Project
On June 28, 2016, MB 313 students (Nicole Bennett ’17, Denis Biglin ’18, Spencer Lowry
’18, Joseph Stagliano ‘18), under the direction of Professor Azita Hirsa, presented
the result of their summer course project to the Saratoga Springs Smart City Commission.
The students designed, collected, and analyzed survey data that brought awareness
of the Smart City Strategy Assistance project to Saratoga citizens and presented multiple
opportunities for citizens to voice their opinions, concerns, and aspirations about
extended broadband services to underserved neighborhoods, improved upload/download
speeds, public Wi-Fi on Broadway, smart solutions such as mobile parking applications,
and the support of online government interactions and transactions. The project is
part of roadmap that NYSTEC (a technology consulting company) is working on to assist
the Saratoga Smart City Commission with vetting smart city strategies, a long-term
vision for an intelligent community, with both short- and long-term achievable objectives
that will leverage existing City infrastructure strengths and address challenges.
